Eagle Eye Promposal Contest: I Get to Love you
After her beautiful solo dance performance to the song, “I Get to Love You” at spring Dance Fusion performance, junior McKenzie Johnson proposed to her boyfriend Will Lash. This song was significant because it is their song. McKenzie and Will have been a couple for a year and she thought that since he asked her last year, she should surprise him this year. As you can see from the video, Will was definitely surprised!
We had a chance to sit down and talk with the couple about their promposal:
Promposer: McKenzie Johnson
Eagle Eye: Who did you ask to go to Prom with?
McKenzie Johnson: Will Lash
EE: Describe in detail how you asked them.
MJ: My mom helped come up with the idea. At the Dance Fusion competition showcase, I performed my solo which was choreographed to Will and I’s song (I Get to Love You by Ruelle) and when it was over, the lights turned off. I walked off stage, grabbed the microphone, and said, “William, will you go to Prom with me?” Then, I walked back on stage with a poster full of pictures of us, two balloons on each side of the poster, and chocolates. We met in the middle of the stage when he jumped up.
EE: Why did you choose this person to ask?
MJ: He’s not only my boyfriend, but my best friend and I know we’ll have a blast at Prom like we did last year.
EE: Where did you get the inspiration for the idea?
MJ: I just knew I wanted to do something big for him and that’s where the idea to ask him in front of a big audience came from.
EE: What relationship do you have with this person?
MJ: Boyfriend
Promposee: Will Lash
EE: Give us your side of the story. Why do you think they asked you?
Will Lash: I think she asked me because we are really in love with each other and had a great time last year at prom.
EE: Describe in detail how you were asked and how you felt.
WL: McKenzie already had me in tears after dancing a solo to our song, “I Get to Love you,” on stage. Then, I heard her say my name on the microphone and I was so surprised. I had no clue what was going on. She asked me to prom in front of the whole auditorium. I couldn’t stop smiling. My cheeks hurt, and I was so happy. She came back on stage with a beautiful poster and chocolate, which always seals the deal. She looked so cute. I couldn’t help but jump on stage and say yes.
EE: Did you have any suspicions that you were going to be asked by them?
WL: I knew she was going to since I asked her last year. We agreed that she could this year and then it would be my turn again next year. I couldn’t believe how elaborate, thoughtful, and heartfelt, her promposal was though.
EE: Why should you win the contest?
WL: We should win because her promposal was truly unique. McKenzie put months of effort into her dance for me and got the courage to coordinate her promposal with her dance teachers. She then asked me in front of a bigger crowd than any other promposal that will or could happen. Best of all, she did it out of genuine love. I couldn’t be happier with McKenzie and I wouldn’t have rather been promposed to in any other way.

I saw the dance and it was beautiful. After McKenzie called his name, Will jumped up on that stage so easily. “He said ‘YES'”! It was so beautiful. The Hugh audience cheered and enjoyed being part of the proposal.
