The boys tennis team defeated Huntington on Monday, April 19 to win the Mountain League Championship for the third consecutive season, not including last year’s season which was canceled due to COVID.

The 2021 season win was sweeter than the 2018 and 2019 seasons because in both of the previous championship years Tyrone tied for the league title with Huntingdon, but this year Tyrone won the Mountian League single-handedly.

I’m very impressed with this team and their continued improvement from the start of the season until now.

— Head Coach Randy Irvin

“The guys worked extremely hard this year to win the Mountain League. This was a total team effort and hopefully this will help us heading into the postseason,” said Tyrone Head Coach Randy Irvin.

Playing talented teams such as Hollidaysburg, Altoona, and Juniata helped the Tyrone boys to raise their game and compete at a higher level in their league.

Senior Kelton Raabe is proud of the team’s accomplishments so far this season.

“A wise man, Albert Einstein once said, ‘If ‘A’ is success in life, I should say that the formula is ‘A’ equals x plus y plus z, x being work and y being play.’ There were moments this season where we were just willing to work harder than the others. The Boys Tennis Team’s legacy will live on to tell another story,” said senior Kelton Raabe.

Senior Nick Lewis loves the comradery that the team has developed this season.

“Success is like chicken wings, it tastes great but is better with friends,” said star player Nick Lewis.

With a winning record of 7-4, the boys are excited for districts and continuing to add to their winning record.
