The “Be Golden” award is a faculty and staff recognition program at the high school. It is given to a teacher or staff that is making a difference at Tyrone.

This award is given weekly by a faculty/staff member to another faculty/staff member. Whoever receives the trophy on Friday is responsible for awarding it to someone else the following week. The only criteria are to give it to someone who has done something to make the school a better place.

“With the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative in our school, we want to not only recognize students for being golden but staff members as well,” said Shannon Davis, the award program coordinator. “This is a way to personally thank people we work with every day, but don’t always have the chance to show them how much they are appreciated.”

Last week the award went to crossing guard and aid to special ed Ms.Tammy Harmon 

She chose to give the award to job coach Ms. Jamie Irvin

Ms. Harmon quote:

“I am happy to pass the Be Golden Award to Jaime Ewell Irvin. Jaime helps students in the Eagles Nest Cafe as the career coach. She works alongside them as they learn about food service safety and the various operations of the cafe. She sets a positive example for students and is a good role model. Jaime also works security at the district, helping students and spectators at school events. On top of everything that Jaime does for us here at TAHS, she is also a wonderful mom and a great friend.”

The Eagle Eye interviewed Ms.Irvin about being this week’s award winner:

Eagle Eye: Why did you go into education?

Jamie Irvin: “I actually went to college to be a nurse.Either profession you are helping people.” 

EE: What makes Tyrone a good place to work?

JI: “I have worked here 11 years and have met some pretty wonderful staff and students. I also think that Tyrone Area School District offers a great education and environment for the students that it serves. They all make it easy to come to work.”

EE: What is your favorite memory at Tyrone?

JI: “I don’t have one particular memory to share but the best thing about working here is meeting the new 9th grade class and then seeing them graduate. Watching those children grow and develop into young adults is what it is all about! They change so much in their time here.”
