Athlete of the Week: Maddy Whitby

Name: Madison Whitby

Sport: Soccer

Grade: 12

Senior Maddy Whitby is a well-respected leader for the Tyrone varsity girls’ soccer team.  She was a starting defender and one of the senior captains for the team this year. Maddy is also very involved in school as a member of many clubs and helps out when she can. Whitby has played soccer for Tyrone soccer since seventh grade.


Eagle Eye: How did you first get involved in this sport?

Maddy Whitby: My cousin Chloe and I would play soccer in her yard so I grew interested in the sport.

EE: Favorite professional sports team?

MW: Liverpool

EE: Favorite professional athlete?

MW: Mo Salah

EE: Who is your hero? Why?

MW: My Dad, Michael Whitby. He served the country as a Navy Seal. He has the entrepreneurial mind that I strive to have.

EE: Favorite band/musician?

MW: Rex Orange County

EE: Favorite movie?

MW: Shameless

EE: Favorite food?

MW: Sushi

EE: What advice can you give to younger athletes?

MW: Always work hard even when no one is looking. Have fun while it lasts.

EE: What are your future goals?

MW: To go into a business field, have kids, and BE HAPPY!

Liv hopes to write about upcoming school events, students of the week, and cover the girl’s soccer stories this year. Her plans after high school are to attend a good college. Liv is very excited to be a freshman and to be on the Eagle Eye team, she hopes to make the best out of her years ahead.
