Athlete of the Week: Andrew Weaver

Andrew+Weaver
Andrew Weaver

Name: Andrew Weaver

Sport: Football

Grade: 12

Weaver has been unstoppable on the football field all year. Even when the football team was off to a slow start, Weaver stepped up and shined. He made some big plays to keep Tyrone alive in those games. He is a threat on both sides of the ball and teams have realized, but they can’t stop him. Weaver has 18 receptions for 317 yards and 3 touchdowns so far this season. He is also a threat on the defensive side of the ball by being a defensive end with such great speed, giving him a better hand over his opponents. He has recorded 22 solo tackles and 5 sacks on the season. Anytime Weaver is on the field, he is a problem for the other team. Weaver also has a blocked punt on his resume within the season so far. He is on a great path to be one of the best defensive ends Tyrone has seen and he is going to keep dominating.

Accomplishment: Weaver had an outstanding game vs. Bellwood. He cooked the defensive backs for Bellwood, putting up 7 catches for 139 yards with one touchdown. Weaver wasn’t only dominant on the offensive side of the ball, but defensive too, torturing Bellwood’s offensive line. Weaver was a key element in holding Bellwood’s star running back to only 54 yards.
