Ask the Coach with Head Coach Jason Wilson

Each week of the football season, Head Coach Jason Wilson sits down with the Eagle Eye for an exclusive interview.

The Golden Eagles soared over Penns Valley 41-7 last week.  The team faces one last test before the playoffs as they face the 8-1 Chestnut Ridge Lions from District 5.  The Lions beat Central 15-12 in week six, so this should be a good game for the Eagles.

EE: What are your strengths as a team?

JW: That we all play together, we have a balanced offense, and we attack on defense.

EE: What improvements have you made recently?

JW: Offensively, just getting the ball out quicker on our passes, and letting the receivers do a little bit more of the work. Defensively, just attacking up front and being a little bit more aggressive with the linebackers.

EE: How has your team performed on the road?

JW: Overall, we have been playing really well home and away. We just got to keep it up. It’s going to be a tough test this week, so we will see how good we are.

EE: What are your goals for the rest of the season?

JW: We still have one more week. We have to take it one game at a time. We need to start preparing ourselves for the playoffs, so we will see what’s going to happen.

EE: Your starting running back, Aleic Hunter, has eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing. What are your thoughts on his play this year?

JW: The line really blocks well for him. Aleic is small and shifty, and can find the open hole and get in the open field.

EE: Your defense has stood out to be a powerhouse, what is the reasoning for their success?

JW: They are very consistent. They have eliminated the big plays unlike the first few weeks of the season. They make teams drive on them, and every one of them do their responsibilities. In high school, it is hard to put together a 13-15 play drive and score.

EE: You guys have a show down with a talented 8-1 Chestnut Ridge team Friday. What special tactics do you have put together to beat this team?

JW: We aren’t going to do anything different than we have in the past few weeks. We just got to come out and attack them. Like I said, we have to do our responsibilities from start to finish. This will be a tough game, we just got to stay at it, and keep going.

EE:  What are you dressing up as for Halloween?

JW: Coach Wilson.

EE:  Sounds pretty scary coach.  Thanks and good luck this week.
