Ask the Coach with Head Coach Jason Wilson

EE: Do you think your team played up to their full potential last Friday?

JW: We haven’t reached our full potential, but we obviously played very well.

— Head Coach Jason Wilson

EE: What was the mind set in last weeks practice coming off your first loss?

JW: That we need to just get better, and come out and play well.

EE: Can you talk about how your seniors played on their senior night?

JW: They all played very well.  It is good to come out with a win, and they are going to remember that the rest of their lives.

EE: You had some key injuries the past two weeks, how have some players stepped up to fill those positions?

JW: Our depth is really well in some of the positions. Those who stepped up did a good job filling in those spots. For instance, AJ Grassi started linebacker replacing Eli Sleeth. Duane Boone and Jake Makdad did a really good job rotating at fullback.

EE: Garrett Hunter has reached a huge milestone throwing for 1,000 yards. Can you talk about how he has performed so far this season?

JW: Garrett is really good at finding the open receiver. He can read the coverages, and the receivers have helped him out by getting open and making the plays.

EE: Your offense seems to be more diverse from the past few years, what improvements have been made?

JW: That’s one of the big keys to maintain a good balanced effective passing game. That helps clean out the box a little bit because over the past few years teams have been over stacking the box to try to stop our heavy run game.

EE: What challenges will you face against Penns Valley this upcoming game?

JW: Penns Valley is always big. There have been several years where we’ve been clearly the better team, but they battled against us. We have to be able to beat them up front. They are going to throw the ball around, and run their nice option game. We have to make sure we are hitting all of our reads, and aiming points.

EE: What is your favorite NFL football team?

JW: San Francisco 49ers.

EE: Why is that?

JW: Because Steve Young was the quarterback for them, and he played for BYU.
