Athlete of the Week: Kylee Nelson

Name: Kylee Nelson

Sport: Volleyball

Grade: 11

Accomplishment: Kylee Nelson is a valuable player on the Tyrone girl’s volleyball team. She recently got her 1000th dig in her varsity volleyball career. This is an incredibly rare accomplishment that not many players reach, especially at the high school level. Nelson has been the team’s starting libero since her freshman year. Since then she has done nothing but succeed in both her physical game and her ability to connect with her teammates on the court.


Eagle Eye: How did you first get involved with the sport?

Kylee Nelson: My sister played so, I joined in 5th grade, to be a manager.

EE: What other sport(s) or other activities are you involved in?

KN: Track

EE: Favorite college or pro sports team?

KN: Nebraska Volleyball

EE: Favorite college or pro athlete?

KN: Morgan Hentz

EE: Who is your hero? Why?

KN: My mom, because if it wasn’t for her and what she has done for me, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

KN: Miguel

EE: What advice would you give younger athletes?

KN: Don’t give up. Even if it may seem hard.

EE: What are your future goals past High School?

KN: Graduate, go to college, and maybe play volleyball there.

Lexi Hess is currently a senior at Tyrone Area High School. This is Lexi's fourth year on the Tyrone Eagle Eye News team. She has an interest in writing a variety of stories. She is a studious student who takes her academics seriously. She is also involved in school by participating in clubs, such as the Student Council, Prom Committee, and NHS. She was accepted into South Hills School of Business and Technology and plans to attend there starting in fall 2025. She intends to study their Diagnostic Medical Sonography program for 3 years. Cohen Wallace is a senior at TAHS and will be entering his first year of Eagle Eye. Cohen's hobbies include football, wrestling, and track. He is very passionate about his favorite sports teams: The Miami Hurricanes and The Tampa Bay Buccaneers. When he is not in school, he loves to spend time with his friends and cook Braden Ewing in cornhole. After high school, Cohen wishes to work in the education field, as well as someday possibly becoming a football coach. Cohen looks forward to writing about sports and different community events that happen all around Tyrone.
