Annual Color Blast Run Set for May 4
Tyrone’s fourth annual community Color Blast Run will be held on Saturday, May 4th, 2019. Registration begins at 10:00 am and the race starts at 11:00 am.
The Color Blast race route covers five kilometers across the TASD campus. It is a non-timed fun race/walk. While on the course, runners and walkers will be splashed with non-toxic colored powder. Click the slideshow and video for scenes from last year’s event.
“The greatest fun is on Saturday, the day of the event,” said high school Mr. Cummins McNitt teacher “It’s just a hoot to be able to go out and throw color on the runners.”
After the run, participants are invited to stay and enjoy the after party. Food and drinks are included with the cost of registration. Face painting and a basket raffle will also be available. New this year will be a vendor fair with local businesses, artists and craftspeople selling items in the high school gym.
“All the money will be go toward student and staff activities in all three TASD buildings,” said McNitt. “At the high school, the PBIS Committee has supported the Golden Raffle, the Golden Kickoff Day, Spring Fling, Be Golden Teacher/Staff Award, as well as other student planned programs and assemblies throughout the year.”
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Support. Many schools all across the country have something like this, including Tyrone.
“PBIS rewards positive behaviors, positive decision making, and academic achievements,” said Jessica Hetrick, eighth grade social studies teacher and one of the event organizers.
None of these events would be possible without the money raised through the color run.
The goal this year is to raise $10,000.
“It’s neat how the community comes together for the event,” said Hetrick. “It’s a fun day.”
Cost to participate is as follows:
Tyrone Area School Students (Daycare – High School) – $30.
Immediate Family Members – Registering on the same order as a Tyrone Area School Student – $20.
Participants that register by Wednesday, April 17 are guaranteed a prize pack including a t-shirt, drawstring bag and color packets. Participants that raise more than $30 can earn additional prizes. For a complete list click HERE.
Runners can also register the day of the event, but preregistration is encouraged.
