The 2018 Lady Eagles soccer team is looking for a better start to the year and to compete with teams they’ve fallen to in the past two seasons. Last season the girls finished a disappointing 3-14 under new head coach Mike Sparacino.

Tyrone has several reasons to believe that they can turn the team’s fortunes around this year. They should have a good mix of experience and youth this season.  The team returns seven starters from last year’s squad, but will also have a lot of youth on the team with seven incoming freshman.

The freshman should add a spark to the team with their competitiveness from their successful junior high season, and will help fill the shoes of several seniors lost last year.

“We’re hopefully going to take some teams by surprise this year. It’s going to be a season to remember,” said junior Madison Soellner.

The team’s four returning seniors this season are forward/midfielder Aaryanna Wright, defender Lizatia Ake, Bellwood forward/midfielder Riley D’Angelo, and defender Kara Engle.

“I think we’re going to have a better season than last year. It’s definitely going to be interesting, and I think that no matter what our record is, I’m still extremely proud of all of my teammates and how hard we’ve worked this preseason,” said senior Lizatia Ake.

“I have a feeling this season is going to be a good one. There’s a lot of talent in this team and I can’t wait to see how the season goes” said freshman Mackenzie Latchford.
