Tyrone Boys Soccer Drop Double Overtime Heartbreaker to Clearfield

Tyrone also lost to rival Huntingdon 5-0 on Tuesday

Clearfield 3, Tyrone 2, 2OT

On Thursday night the Tyrone lost 3-2 to Clearfield in a nail biting double overtime game.

Clearfield was aggressive right out of the gate. Hustling to every loose ball, the Bison scored the first goal of the game inside the first 5 minutes.

Tyrone sophomore Andrew Pearson tied the game with a outside footed corner shot off a through ball played by Corey Johnston.

I was nervous at first, but I gained confidence in the second half, I love playing the game and all the positive support around me

— Keeper Issac Woomer

Clearfield quickly took the lead back off a defensive miscommunication by the Eagles to make the score 2-1 heading into the half.

Tyrone came out of the half hustling to the ball. Half way into the second sophomore Owen Shaulis was fouled in the box and won a penalty for Tyrone. Blake Johnston nabbed an easy goal by sinking the ball past the keeper making the score 2-2.

Full time came and the score was still 2-2. Sophomore keeper Isaac Woomer showed an impressive first and second half in his first varsity start and continued that play into overtime. He was able to save multiple would have been goals and forced the game into double OT.

The second overtime was much like the first, Tyrone and Clearfield both had great opportunities to score. Clearfield finally scored the game winning goal with 3:10 left in the game. Despite the loss Tyrone showed maturity and were able to still compete even in 2 OT.

“I was nervous at first, but I gained confidence in the second half, I love playing the game and all the positive support around me,” said Isaac Woomer.

Huntingdon 5, Tyrone 0

Unable to beat the Huntingdon Bearcats fast transition game, Tyrone Boys Soccer lost 5-0 to rival Huntingdon Bearcats at home on Tuesday.

“Our passes and first touches could have been better,” said defensive captain and senior Aaron Andrews, “We needed to pick our heads up and make smart passes, hopefully we will be able to improve on that in practice.”

The match began with a goal from Huntingdon off a cross headed into the back of net making the score 1-0.

“We needed to pass to feet, we out possessed them in the first half, but we couldn’t turn that into a goal,” said Tyrone head coach Nick Miller.

Huntingdon continued to play well and scored their second goal with 1 minute left in the first half.

During the second half Tyrone was unable to get shots on goal and stop the Bearcats in transition. Huntingdon was able to capitalize on this and score 3 more goals in the second half.
