Tyrone boys soak Huskies 3-0 in the rain

Tyrone makes it two in a row

The Tyrone boys made their way to Ebensburg this Saturday to square up against the Bishop Carroll Huskies. Coming off a solid win over Central, Tyrone was looking to carry momentum into this game. Even though it rained all day, making the playing surface a challenge, the boys played their way to a 3-0 win.

The game started off slow as both teams struggled to keep possession in muddy conditions.  The teams each got plenty of shots on goal but neither team could capitalize.

As the first half came to a close, Junior Outside Midfielder Austin Taylor injured his right leg after a hard foul while firing a shot from outside the box. Taylor was taken off the field on a stretcher and  straight to the hospital.  Fortunately, they found no structural damage just a bone bruise.

The Golden Eagles used that injury to fuel a second half surge of goals.

Tyrone’s first goal came on a deflected free kick just outside the 18 in the 25th minute. Senior Noah D’Angelo fired a shot at the keeper that bounded of his chest and right to sophomore Blake Johnston who one-timed it into the back of the net.

The next goal came after sophomore Blake Johnston’s corner kick bounced off of a defender right back to him where he chip one into the box to connect with freshman Andrew Pearson’s head.

“Blake sent a good ball in and recovered it again after it came back out, then Blake did a good job finding Andrew Pearson for a big o’le banger,” said sophomore Andrew Sherren.

The third goal occurred when senior Noah D’Angelo took on Bishop Carroll defense single handedly and found an open shot.
