Head Custodian Mr. Estright to Retire

Mr. John Estright, Head Custodian of fourteen years, seven in the elementary school and seven in the high school, has decided to retire.

Mr. Estright has decided to retire because “There’s a point in life when you know it’s time to start another chapter in life.” He’s been in the work force for nearly 47 years.

Custodian Tom Hunter said “I think he’s a great guy and will be much missed.”

Mr. Estright doesn’t know who will replace him at this point. He says that it is advertised, but that his replacement will most likely be hired from with-in.

He says that he loved working with the district but if he had to pick a favorite time, it would be when he was in the Elementary school. He loved working with the little kids before the holidays.

He does not have a least favorite memory; he tried to face every situation with an open mind.

He also manages the school to work program. “Nothing beats on the job training.” he said.

Mr. Estright was previously a custodian at the Lincoln Elementary page and got moved over in ’99 because of the elementary merger.

Mr. Estright was a Tyrone alumnus and graduated in 1965. He was thrilled to work with his old classmates and even graduated with Mr. Paul Cowher.

He says he’ll miss handling the day-to-day activities that go on in the school every day. He’ll also miss doing some of the big work projects. His custodial staff cleaned out drama storage and cleaned up much of the vocational wing.

Now that he’s retired he plans to spend time hunting and fishing with his brother in the forest and lakes around the state.
