YEA! Program Looking for Students Interested in Entrepreneurship

Application Deadline is this Saturday Sept. 15th!

Three Tyrone students were selected for the YEA! program last year. Juniors Lindsay Fusco and Mia Kosoglow and eighth-grader Angelina Rhoades participated in this national program to help students with an interest in entrepreneurship and starting their own business. The program is sponsored locally by the Blair County Chamber of Commerce

“We went on field trips and they would bring in entrepreneurs to present their business to us. We learned all about being an entrepreneur and along the way we completed a business plan,” said Fusco.

YEA!, standing for Young Entrepreneurs Academy, is looking for new students interested in this program.

The program is open to anyone grades 6-12. Transportation is provided to the Sheetz Entrepreneurial Center in downtown Altoona. Selected students will meet each week for half a day for 25 weeks.

“I really enjoyed YEA! and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about being an entrepreneur or anyeone who has an idea that they want to expand [upon it],” said Fusco.

Guest speakers, mentors and field trips are a part of the program. Students will form a business idea, whether individually or in a small group, and will pitch their idea to judges for a chance to move onto a national competition.

New to the program this year, students will have the opportunity to earn three credits from Saint Francis University.
