Track and field isn’t usually associated with December, January, and February, but thanks to the availability of the Horace Ashenfelter Indoor Track at Penn State University, area track teams can compete throughout the winter.
The first event of Tyrone’s winter indoor season was the State College Invitational held on December 18.
Tyrone had the opportunity to compete with schools they don’t usually compete against during the outdoor season.
Tyrone’s top finisher was sophomore Caleb Whitby, who won the long jump with an excellent jump of 21-4.
In the 60-meter dash, Caleb Whitby finished 11th with a time of 7.35 and senior Seth Hoover finished 15th with a time of 7.46.
For the girls, sophomore Sarah Chichester was the top finisher, earning 7th with a time of 8.25.
In the 200-meter dash sophomore Drew Irons took 13th with a time of 24.80 and senior Austin Lucas took 25th with a time of 25.90.
For the girls, Chichester took 5th with a time of 27.35.
In the 400-meter dash, Irons finished 12th with a time of 55.48, and senior Klayten Moore placed 26th with a time of 1:00.36.
In the 60-meter hurdles, senior Moore took 11th with a time of 10.18.
The Tyrone’s boys’ 4 by 200 team took 6th with a time of 1:38.56
In the 800 meter, senior Aiden Detwiler took 9th with a time of 2:11.56, and freshman Brody Hoover took 32nd with a time of 2:45.74
In the mile, senior Thomas Sutt placed 20th with a time of 5:05.05, and sophomore Nate Erickson took 23rd with a time of 5:25.83
In the high jump, Brody Hoover placed 9th with a jump of 5 feet.
The next indoor meet will be on January 11 at PSU.
