What to Do When There is Nothing to Do

COVID-19 has caused all schools in Pennsylvania to close for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, leaving many students at home and without their regular routine of school, sports, work and hanging out with friends.

So what are Tyrone students doing these days when there is nothing to do and nowhere to go?

The answer, for many students, is “not much.”

“Since the school closed, I have been doing nothing,” said senior Paige Kephart. “In fact, I was so bored that I bought a new game for Nintendo Switch to help me with my boredom. Now, I’m just trying to get ahead in school.”

With the school and many local businesses also closed, the students have to stay home and keep occupied.

With not every business closing, some students are staying occupied by working.

Now that online learning has begun, students are completing assignments from teachers to stay occupied.

“I’ve just been trying to keep myself busy. I’ve been doing school work and just keeping in touch with my friends. I mostly just try to keep myself occupied,” said senior class President Brent McNeel.

Students have been doing whatever it takes to stay in touch with their friends during this quarantine. One of the easiest methods discovered is the popular video chatting app Zoom.

“I miss my friends and being able to do activities together, but I have been keeping in touch with them by video chatting on Zoom,” said senior Tyler Beckwith.

What are some activities you can do to keep occupied? Here are some ideas from USA Today:

  • Complete a puzzle.
  • Dust off an old instrument and begin practicing.
  • Watch a movie.
  • Try meditation, it will help you stay relaxed.
