Walls Receives WLC Scholarship from PA FFA Alumni Association
Tyrone junior Rayann Walls was one of five FFA members in Pennsylvania selected to receive a full scholarship to attend the 2022 FFA Washington Leadership Conference.
Walls received the honor from the FFA Alumni Association at the Pennsylvania FFA Midwinter Convention on January 10. The scholarship covers the $1030 cost of attending the week-long conference this summer in Washington DC.
According to the National FFA website, the Washington Leadership Conference (WLC) inspires FFA members to take a greater initiative in their communities.
“I am beyond interested in attending the Washington Leadership Conference so that I can embrace the chance to further my FFA knowledge, while also being able to embrace the opportunity to learn career and occupational skills such as problem-solving, how to become an effective leader, and how to value peers and other industry professionals,” said Walls.
At the conference, attendees will “evaluate their personal skills and interests, develop leadership talent and create service plans that will make a difference in their communities,” said the official description on the FFA website.
All members who attend will also develop a Living to Serve Plan, which they will implement in their communities.
“These skills will help me expand my aptitude for serving others within my community and school district. The Washington Leadership Conference will also allow me to make personal connections that will last a lifetime through the FFA,” said Walls.
Applicants completed an application in December and wrote two essays based on specific questions. A panel of judges ranked all the applications submitted from FFA members throughout the Commonwealth and the top five applications were awarded scholarships.
