Tyrone dominated Philipsburg, completing the season sweep of the Mounties with a 71-60 win on Tuesday night in Philipsburg.

Tyrone sophomore Ashton Walk was the game’s high scorer with 22 points. Sam Crilly (16) and Ross Gampe (13) were also in double digits for the Golden Eagles.

The Mounties came out in a 2-3 zone defense, giving Walk and the Eagles space to shoot.  Tyrone made the Mounties pay with eight three-point shots, including two from Walk.

“Since we took a loss against Philipsburg at home last year, it was crucial for us to get the road win this year,” said Walk.

Going into halftime, Tyrone was up by 16. Through the 3rd quarter, the Eagles extended the lead to 20, but the Mounties put on a too-little-too-late comeback in the 4th to make the final score 71-60 in favor of the Eagles.

P-Os Jake DeSimone had 21 on the night and hit a pair of 3’s in the fourth to spark a comeback but that would not be enough as the Tyrone Eagles pulled out a big Mountain League win.

The Eagles improved to 9-5 and the Mounties fell to 7-9.

Tyrone will host the Millionaires of Williamsport at home on Thursday, January 26. Philipsburg will host Huntingdon at home as well.
