Boys Defeat Clearfield; Voyzey Sets New Record in Girls Loss
Tyrone’s two time defending state champion high jumper Erika Voyzey began the 2016 Track and Field dual meet season with a bang on Tuesday with a personal best record breaking jump of 5’11” vs. Clearfield. Voyzey currently holds the second ranked high school jump in the nation.
Despite the dominating jump the Lady Eagles still fell to the Bisons 78-63.
On the boys side, the Golden Eagles defeated Clearfield 90-60. Sophomore Parker Mitchell lead for the team with three 1st places in the 4×100 relay, 100m, 200m, and one 2nd in the long jump.
“The boys showed a pretty solid effort,” said head coach Christoper Shedd, “I think we’re pretty well set for the igloo even though both teams are young this year.”
Boys Track
Double winners for the boys were Parker Mitchell in the sprints and Joe Kohler in the distance events.
Mitchell took first in the 100m with a time of 11.34 and in the 200m with 23.89.
Kohler took the tape first in the 1600 meter run (4:49) and 2300 meter run (10:39).
Will Lash was also a big contributor, taking 2nd in the 100 with a 11.78 and 2nd in the 300m hurdles and 200m with 45.44 and 42.72.
Michael Lewis took 2nd in the 100/110m hurdles with a time of 18.64.
Taking 1st and 3rd in the 1600m run was Joe Kohler and Adam Zook with times of 4:49 and 4:54. Kohler also placed 1st in the 3200m run with 10:39, and Zook in the 800m with 2:09.
Grayson Putt and Kyle Plummer took 1st and 3rd in the 400m run with 1:00 and 1:01.
The boys 4×100 relay team consisting of Daniel Lay, Parker Mitchell, Grayson Putt, and Jacob Meredith took 1st with a time of 46.75.
Boys Field
Tyrone swept the long jump with Cullen Raftery (18’11.5″), Mitchell ( 18’9″), and Meredith (18’1″) placing one, two and three.
Raftery also took 1st in the pole vault with 10’6″, tied with Brandon Loose.
A tie in high jump for 3rd was Larry Kobuck and Meredith (5’4″).
Lewis and Daniel Lay placed 1st and 3rd in the triple jump with 38’4″ and 36’9″.
Taking 2nd in the shot put and the discus was Nick Bonsell with throws of 40’3.5″ and 109’11”.
Jeff McNelis placed 1st in the javelin throw with 129’11”. He also took 3rd in the shot put and discus with throws of 39’6″ and 109’1.5″.
Placing 2nd in the javelin throw was John Chronister (122’9″).
Girls Track
Double wins for the girls was Voyzey 1st in the 100m (13.33) and the 200m (28.76).
Makenzie Stauffer placed 2nd in the 100/110m hurdles with a time of 18.32.
Taking 2nd in the 1600m run was Emily Beam with a time of 6:20.
Tori Crabtree and Kristen Johnson took 1st (1:08) and 3rd (1:11) in the 400m run.
The girls 4×11 relay team of Crabtree, Stauffer, Lea Crofcheck and Voyzey took 1st with a time of 54.97.
Crabtree took 2nd in the 200m (30.07) and in the 800m Beam placed 1st at 2:49.
Girls Field
Voyzey and Lexi Cannistraci too 1st (5’11”) and 2nd (4’4″) in the high jump.
L. Crofcheck and Alexis Stevens placed 1st and 2nd in the long jump with 13’8″ and 14’4″.
With 25’1″ Brooke Welch and Mya Romano took 2nd and 3rd in the triple jump.
Shaniah Lowery placed 2nd in the shot put (28’3″).
Taking 2nd in the discus was Rebecca Schleppy (78’1.5″).
Carly Crofcheck placed 1st in the javelin with a throw of 98’2″.
