Vance scores 50th career goal in 5-1 win vs. Philipsburg

Senior Carrie Vance drives toward the goal.

Tyrone senior Carrie Vance scored her 50th career goal against the same team that she scored her first career goal as a freshman as the Tyrone Lady Eagles soccer team cruised to a 5-1 win over Philipsburg on September 2.

“The fact that I scored my 50th against the same team I scored my first is a pretty awesome feeling,” said Vance, “without the support from my team I never would have reached this milestone. I have my teammates and coaches to thank.”

“It was great seeing her achieve such an accomplishment. She was talented at her position since freshman year, but she has worked hard to develop her one on one play,” said assistant coach Tiffany Smith.

Junior Christina Kowalski scored the first goal of the game with an assist from Vance. 10 minutes later Vance played a ball to sophomore Audrey Bowser, and the Lady Eagles went ahead 2-0.

“I felt amazing getting my first goal of the season, especially since it was right as the game started. I think that scoring early gave the team the confidence that we needed,” said Kowalski.

At the end of the half, the score was 2-1.

The Lady Eagles opened the second half with the same intensity as the first. Vance scored 3 minutes and 15 seconds into the second half with an assist from Bowser. A short 6 minutes later Bowser scored again with another assist from Vance.

With 10 minutes left in the half, Vance scored on an assist from Bowser.  Shortly after, the referees called the game due to the weather.

Smith stated, “It was good to start the season with a win, it boosted the moral of the team and gave us the opportunity to work on fundamental skills.”

The Lady Eagle’s next soccer game is Monday September 8th, 2014 at 6:30pm in Huntingdon.
