Tyrone senior Andrew Weaver made history by achieving the 100 career win mark, a feat accomplished by only 12 Golden Eagles wrestlers. Weaver claimed his 100th win in his first bout at the PIAA District Six Championships.
“Obtaining 100 wins is a great accomplishment and not one that many high school wrestlers obtain. For Andrew to get 100 wins is impressive and he joined the history of great Tyrone wrestlers,” said Tyrone head coach Quentin Wright.
To earn his 100th win Weaver pinned Darin Rodgers of Forest Hills in just 35 seconds, a fitting way for a dominant wrestler to meet the mark.
“I’ve definitely improved a lot since my freshman year, but I’ve especially improved since last season,” said Weaver.
In his freshman year, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, shortening the season significantly. Weaver still achieved a record of 10-5 that season, but having only 15 bouts in a year made it remarkably more difficult to reach 100 wins.
Going back to the normal season length in Weaver’s sophomore year, he finished 27-14 and placed third in the district competition.
As a junior, Weaver matched his previous season with the exact same record, 27-14, and place (third) at the district championships.
Now in his senior year, Weaver is an exceptional 38-8, placing fourth at districts and moving on to regionals this weekend.
“I believe that Regionals is going to go well for our team. I’m hoping that at least three or four of our wrestlers can make it to states, including myself,” said Weaver.
Weaver has also been a superb football player, starring at tight end and defensive end. He racked up 895 yards and eight touchdowns in this season alone.
Joining his fellow teammate Braden Ewing in reaching the 100 win club this season, Weaver has cemented his name along with some of the greats from Tyrone history, including:
