Tyrone’s Student Assistance Program Fundraiser at Sweet Frog on Saturday

The Tyrone High School Student Assistance Program (SAP) will hold a fundraiser at Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt in Altoona at the Logan Town Center on Saturday, December 17.

The SAP program will receive 20% of all sales, no coupons are necessary.

The money raised will go directly to students in need at Tyrone High School.

Most students are unaware that 10% of all Tyrone Area High School students receive support in one form or another from the SAP program. The main goal of SAP is to provide help and support for students with a wide range of issues, such as depression and other mental health issues, alcohol and/or drug abuse, various family issues or any other problems that may impact a student’s ability to focus on their education.

Many people are involved with the program both in and out of the district. This includes teachers, guidance counselors, school nurses, social workers, school psychologists, the Dean of Students, the Principal, and the SAP Coordinator.

In the past, SAP funds have been used to purchase numerous things such as eyeglasses, mattresses, clothing, and other necessities.

The program also sponsors an annual $500 scholarship that goes to a deserving graduating senior. The scholarship goes to a senior who is planning to major in a “helping” field such as counselling, psychology, nursing, etc.

SAP also earns money through a teacher dress down day.
