Multitalented Tyrone senior basketball player Andrew Escala has committed to continuing his athletic and academic career at Penn State Altoona, where he will play basketball and major in business.
Escala has always wanted to play basketball in college, and this opportunity fulfills a lifelong dream.
“I am very excited to take my talents to the next level and to play for my hometown team,” Escala said.
Penn State Altoona plays in the Division III Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). They posted a successful 18-10 record and a 12-4 conference record last season, making it to the AMCC conference championship game, which ended in a heartbreaking 92-90 loss to the first seed Pitt-Bradford.
A three-year starter for the Golden Eagles, Escala averaged 15 points per game and 5 rebounds during his senior season. He hopes to bring that to the Nittany Lions next season.
“I’m really happy Drew decided to continue his education and basketball career. I think he will be a solid contributor to the Penn State Altoona team,” said Tyrone Head Coach Luke Rhoades.
His Tyrone teammates were pleased to learn that he will continue his basketball career in college.
“Drew is a really good momentum builder and a great teammate. He was always pushing the young lads at practice and was a role model for the younger kids,” senior Ethan Dasher said. “I think he will do great at Penn State Altoona.”
In addition to his talent as a basketball player, Escala has also become renowned for his talent as a fashion designer and small businessman.
Two years ago, Escala turned his interest in fashion into a successful online business.
Escala’s streetwear brand, Imperil Vestures, has clients all over the country and even globally.
He has shipped his designs to customers in Australia, Iceland, Austria, Norway, France, Ireland, the UK, Poland, and Portugal.
Escala plans to major in business and hopes to learn what it takes to build his brand to an international level.
