Tyrone’s Big Bats Swing Past Penns Valley

Behind dominant performances both on the mound and from the batter’s box the Golden Eagles defeated Mountain League opponent Penns Valley easily by a score of 15-2 Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles sent freshman Aiden Coleman to the hill for his first varsity start and he delivered a impressive performance. Coleman struck out four while only allowing five hits and 2 runs across 4 innings. Coleman was followed by Bryce Hunter who struck out 2 while allowing only 2 hits over the final 2 innings.

“I felt that I did good for my first every varsity start as a freshman and I’m glad I could help contribute to the win alongside the rest of my teammates,” said freshman Aidan Coleman.

The Golden Eagle offense was almost as dominant as their pitching as they racked up 18 hits and a team batting average of .514. Seniors Cory Lehman, Andrew Pearson and sophomore Brandon Lucas all had three hits. Junior Kevin Lehner added four hits to go along with 4 RBIs. The group of Lehman, Pearson, Lehner and Lucas combined for driving in 10 of Tyrone’s 15 runs.

Tyrone’s offense was held scoreless for the first two innings but then exploded for 6 runs in the third. They never looked back from there as they added more runs in every inning the rest of the way except the 6th. They slammed the door closed by putting up a four spot in the 7th inning.

With the victory the Golden Eagles move to 2-0 on the season while picking up their first victory in the Mountain League.
