The Tyrone Golden Eagles Cross Country team competed against Central and Hollidaysburg on Central’s home course on Wednesday, September 3, and compared to their performance at the last meet, the team struggled significantly.
Although the course appeared relatively flat, it was deceptively difficult, with many downhills and a slight uphill, making it a challenging course for the Tyrone runners.
The varsity boys felt the struggle early on, with most being slower than usual, even at the start.
Alex Brumbaugh paced the Tyrone team, running a 19:04, good enough for fourth place.
Following shortly behind Brumbuagh was senior Nate Erickson, who ran a 20:52, earning him 10th place. Coming in third for the varsity boys and 11th at the meet, freshman Brenson Davis ran a 21:01.
Sophomore Aidan Luther, who ran a 27:15 at Big Valley, regressed to a 31:25 on the Central course, a time he hopes to move past and not look back on.
The varsity girls were in the same boat as the boys, with slower times than they had hoped for.
Freshman Ella Savino ran a 25:39, earning her 30th place. Right behind her was junior Sophia Witkamp, who ran a 25:45, good enough for 31st place.
Most runners ran three minutes slower than their usual pace.
The team hopes to brush this off as a minor setback and prevail at their next meet.
The Tyrone Cross Country Team will run its next meet at Bellwood on Wednesday, September 10.
