The Tyrone Golden Eagles competed at one of the biggest meets of the season, the Big Valley Invitational, in Reedsville on Saturday, August 30.
The top finisher for the varsity boys was senior Alex Brumbaugh, who placed 41st, and for the varsity girls, freshman Ella Savino paced the Lady Eagles with an 84th-place-finish.
The event is one of the largest cross country meets in the state and features over 200 runners each in the varsity boys and girls races, and around 100 runners each for junior varsity and junior high races.
VARSITY BOYS
The Golden Eagles were missing two varsity runners, so two JV runners got to take their spots. As a result, the team didn’t perform as well score-wise, but they still had some strong individual results.
Out of the 22 teams that scored, Tyrone placed 14th.
Seniors Alex Brumbaugh, Nate Erickson, and freshmen Brenson Davis had strong times and places.
Brumbaugh placed 41st, Erickson placed 50th, and Davis placed 63rd. Brumbaugh ran an 18:16, while Erickson and Davis both pr’d, with Erickson running 18:33, and Davis running 19:03.
Freshman Jonah Wicker also had a strong individual performance. Wicker placed 94th and ran a PR of 20:08
Sophomore Brody Hoover placed 132nd with a time of 22:58.
Juniors Eric Goodman and Carter Gwinn finished off Tyrone’s varsity with 145th and 149th places.
VARSITY GIRLS
The girls didn’t score high as a team, but they did have some strong individual performances and a few new personal records.
Out of the 24 teams that scored, Tyrone placed 22nd.
Freshman Ella Savino was Tyrone’s first runner, placing 84th. Savino ran a 23:46, which was a PR for her.
Freshman Hallie Troutman placed 118th, running 26:06
Right behind her were Sophomores Kiana Gardner and Lillian Ammerman. They placed 122nd and 123rd. Gardner ran 26:09, and Ammerman ran 26:10.
Only 20 seconds behind them was Freshman Addison Davis, who placed 134th, running a PR of 26:34.
Finishing off Tyrone’s Varsity team were Sophomore Sophia Raneri, placing 147th with a time of 28:30, and Sophomore Laney Corl, placing 152nd with 29:16.
JV BOYS
The JV boys had only two runners, so there was no team score.
Sophomore Aidan Luther placed 83rd, running a 27:15.
Senior Tyke Beck placed 90th, running a 30:09.
JV GIRLS:
The JV girls had only three runners, so there was no team score.
Junior Sophia Witkamp got into the top 20, placing 18th, earning herself a medal.
She had a time of 23:39.
Sophomore Sage Harris and Junior Skyla Hart placed 64th and 66th.
JH BOYS
The times for the JH boys were inaccurate because half of the runners went the wrong way, cutting the course short. The placement is mostly correct but not exact.
The distance was intended to be two miles, but not everyone went the correct way.
Tyrone placed 8th out of the nine times that scored.
Channing Behrer and Jackson Taylor finished neck and neck, and they placed 51st and 52nd.
Jayden Savion was able to place 60th, and not too far behind him were Karter McGarvey and Ryan Rimmer, who placed 65th and 68th.
Vincent Ammerman and Levi Latchford finished close together, placing 71st and 73rd.
Ian Erickson finished off the boys JH with an 84th-place finish.
JH GIRLS
They did a distance of 2 miles. The online results are set to 2400m, but it was a full 3200m (2 miles)
The JH girls had four runners, just one short of having a team score.
Sage Harbst had a very impressive time and placement. Harbst got seventh place with a time of 13:13, which is a very good performance, especially at a meet this big. She was able to walk away with a medal as well.
Harmony Dickson placed 43rd with a time of 15:47.
Aubrey Balchin and Aubree Gurekovich finished not too far behind Dickson, with Balchin running a time of 16:04, placing 51st, and Gurekovich running a time of 16:19, placing 55th.
