Tyrone wrestling suffers loss against Hollidaysburg 58-15
Tyrone suffered another loss from Hollidaysburg 58-15 in their fifth match of the season.
The Golden Eagles continue to struggle on the mat against some tough opponents, but the team is not forfeiting nearly the number of matches they were in the past and continue to improve, according to Head Coach Mike Cherry.
Wins for the Golden Eagles came from seniors Ricky Reader and Ty Snyder, junior Phoenix Farias, and sophomore Sage Dixon.
Junior Phoenix Farias won a 5-2 decision over his opponent at 160 with two takedowns and an escape.
“I did okay for being sick,” said Farias, “and my opponent was strong. Hollidaysburg has a good wrestling program and they’re a solid team. Tyrone needs to get into better shape and quit making risky decisions. Other than that we have a pretty solid wrestling team.”
At 220 pounds, Tyrone senior Ricky Reader pinned Hollidaysburg’s Devin Culpine in the first period.
“My opponent was pretty tough but I went out on the mat a little frustrated and got the job done,” says junior Ricky Reader after his match. At 220 Reader pinned Devin Culpine in the first period off a takedown.
“We just didn’t go out on the mat as focused as we should have been,” said Reader, “We need to get our minds straight and start cooperating as a team.
Sophomore Sage Dixon also got a win for the Eagles, pinning Dan Reeve at 138.
At 145 senior Ty Snyder wins a 4-2 decision over Hollidaysburg’s Aden Myers.
“We just need to work harder so we can get a win in the future,” said Snyder.
