Tyrone wrestlers head to regionals with confidence
Beckwith, Schopp, and Hunter prepare for battle
Regionals for AA wrestling are right around the corner and Tyrone Area High School has three wrestlers moving on from districts: senior Jason Schopp, senior Jared Beckwith, and junior Aleic Hunter.
All three wrestlers had an amazing year on the mat and wrestled well enough at districts to move on to the regional meet.
“I’m excited for Jason, Jared and Aleic for qualifying for regionals,” said Tyrone head coach Blair Packer, “All three have been leaders on the team these past couple of years and deserve what they earned. They have been working hard these past two weeks in preparation for Regionals and I expect them to do quite well. They have to place in the top 5 to qualify for the State Championships. I believe all 3 are capable of doing that.”
Jason Schopp took first overall at the District 6 Championships, winning every match in grand form.
“There is a saying that got me through districts, and I hope it will help me get through regionals, ‘Hakuna Matata’. Its is pretty exciting to be in regionals for my senior year.” said Schopp, who will be wrestling this Friday and Saturday.
Jared Beckwith was a runner up at districts, winning his first two matches then losing his final match, giving him only his second loss of the season.
“One small step for step for humans, and one giant step for wrestling kind. It’s good to be back at regionals and I’m excited,” said Beckwith.
Aleic Hunter took fourth at districts. Hunter lost in the consi-finals taking fourth and moving on to wrestle at regionals.
When asked about districts Hunter gave his thoughts and feelings, “You are lucky to have a candidate of my stature available in fact; it should be me interviewing you, not the other way around. To answer your question, yeah I’m excited to go to regionals.”
Good luck to these three warriors heading into battle this Friday and Saturday. Bring home the gold!
