Tyrone Wins Season Opener 18-8 Over Clearfield
Tyrone Varsity softball earned a victory over Clearfield 18-8, with a 21 hit, 18 run performance.
After the first inning, the score was 3-1 Tyrone. In the next three innings, Tyrone continued to pound the ball to make the score 10-1 at the end of the fourth inning, which included a two-run homer from sophomore Callie Maceno.
In the bottom of the sixth, Aspen Bishop of Clearfield drove in a run with a double to left field and advanced to third on the throw. Clearfield’s McKayla Ross then hit a fly ball, but reached on an error by Tyrone’s second baseman Ella Pearson. Bishop scored on a throwing error by Ally Jones to third base, which made the score 10-3 Tyrone at the end of the sixth inning.
However, Tyrone responded with eight more runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Tyrone then got two quick outs in the bottom of the seventh but struggled to get the third. Two errors allowed runners to be in place for when Clearfield’s Erica Hanes and Bishop hit back-to-back home runs over the left field fence making the score 18-8.
Callie Maceno led the Tyrone with five hits, and Emily Baran, Pearson, Jones, and Emily Hamer also had multiple hits for the Lady Eagles.
Cate Baran struck out six of the Lady Bison, and ended the game with only one earned run.
To make up for the bad weather, the Lady Eagles have a full schedule this week as they take on Mo Valley on the 10th, P-O on the 11th at home, Bald Eagle on the 12th, and Bellwood on the 14th.
