The Punxsutawney Chucks put a beating on the Golden Eagles as they tallied 13 hits for 14 runs, defeating Tyrone 14-2 and handing them their first loss of the year.
Brandon McClure took the hill for Tyrone, and despite giving up 7 runs, he had a good performance. Four of the runs given up were due to Tyrone’s fielding errors.
The Golden Eagles’ weak point was that they accumulated 4 errors and gave up 14 runs.
A long third inning was the big blow that the Golden Eagles were forced to take, giving up 7 runs in one inning of play.
Tyrone’s fielding and hitting were poor in this outing, with 4 errors in the field and only 2 runs on 3 hits. The only bright side of the Golden Eagles’ offense was that only three runners were left on base.
Some key players for Punxsutawney were Nevin Day and Luke Silverstein, who combined for 4 hits and were responsible for 5 runs scored. Day also hit a homerun in the first inning.
Landon Hamer and Ashton Walk were key players for the Golden Eagles. Hamer and Walk accounted for two of the team’s three hits as well as both driving in a run accounting for both of the team’s runs.
Punxsutawney improved their record to 5-0 and Tyrone’s dropped to 5-1. The Golden Eagles will look forward to preparing for their game against Bishop McCourt at Point Stadium on Friday at 4:30.
