Tyrone had to fight and claw on Friday but came in with an important win to keep them in the hunt for the playoffs.
The Lady Eagles rallied to score two runs in their last at-bat and defeated the 8-3 Lady Lions.
After starting the season 0-5, the girls have won five of their last six games and are working their way back into playoff contention.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Lady Lions scored one run.
The Lady Eagles tied the game in the top of the seventh inning. Junior Amariah Sprankle led off the inning with a single. Freshman Sage Harris singled, advancing Sprankle to second. Junior Allison McNelis then drove in Sprankle with a single.
One out later, junior Grace Naylor grounded out to second, bringing in the winning run.
Senior Sam Shaw had three hits, including two doubles. Junior Amariah Sprankle was in close second with two hits. Sophomore Kaitlyn Rockwell fired a five-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Rockwell appreciated the fight that was given, knowing there wasn’t anyone who didn’t have her back, after a hard-pitched game.
“There wasn’t a girl on the field that looked like they wanted to give up. There was something special about that night, and the team that made me believe we were going to win going into the seventh inning, ”said Rockwell.
