The Golden Eagles traveled up the mountain to take on the 9-2 Philipsburg-Osceola Mounties, the second ranked team in all of class AAA. Tyrone came out in top in the 15-12 slugfest, which was a rematch of last years district championship game, won by P-O.
Tyrone won by coming through with a huge 6th inning, scoring seven.
Tyrone had a great day on offense, collecting 21 hits and reaching base 25 out of 45 plate appearances.
PO junior Lucas Peterson started on the bump, but Tyrone knocked him around, scoring 8 runs on hit in 4 innings pitched.
“We were seeing the ball really well, we had some good luck going our way when we really needed it,” junior Ashton Walk said.
Tyrone’s pitching and defense performed well, despite giving up 12 runs.
Senior AJ Coleman started the game for Tyrone, but struggled, throwing just 1 out in the first, while giving up 6 runs while facing 7 batters.
Fortunately, sophomore Brandon McClure came in relief and picked him up, finishing the game, going 6.2 innings.
Tyrone’s pitching staff has been working to minimize walks, and against PO they only walked 4.
Tyrone’s defense did well, making big plays, including the last play, where right fielder Owen Oakes threw out a PO runner at third, ending the game.
Tyrone’s record now evens to 6-6, and stops the Mounties win streak.
