The Tyrone Golden Eagles took down the first-seeded Philipsburg-Osceola Mounties in a game that had big implications for playoffs and conference standings.
Dylan Ewing pitched a gem for Tyrone, allowing just 1 run through 5 innings along with a handful of walks and hits, and the Tyrone offense was red hot, allowing the Golden Eagles to cruise to an 11-1 win in just five innings.
PO was never able to string hits together, and the Golden Eagles were able to pick up on the pitching of the Mounties’ ace Archer Baughman.
“Everyone was seeing him well, Landon and Brienn set the tone with the homers and gave the rest of the guys confidence at the plate,” junior Brayden Parsons said.
Senior Landon Hamer led off the game with a home run and followed up with 2 more RBI’s from a ground rule double and a walk.
Senior Brienn Jones had a stellar performance, hitting his first home run of the year, and a perfectly executed hit and run for another RBI.
Sophomore Wyatt Kustenbauder went 3-for-4, junior Owen Oakes had 2 hits and an RBI, senior Ashton Walk scored three times, and senior Gayge Miller closed the game out with an infield single to enforce the 10-run rule.
With the win over the previously first-seeded P-O. Tyrone now bumps up to the 4th seed in the district playoff rankings with just three more games remaining on the schedule,
If the Golden Eagles win out, they could jump up another spot in the playoff standings and host a first-round playoff game.
