The Lady Eagles beat rival Bellwood on Monday, September 23, in a hard-fought five-set match.
The Lady Eagles may have underestimated their opponent, and Bellwood came out with more energy than the Eagles, taking the first set 20-25.
“I think we had some nerves going in playing our rival school, but came together as a team and pulled out the win,” sophomore setter Amaya Martin said.
Bellwood continued to pressure the Lady Eagles in the second set, but Tyrone bounced back to win 26-24.
Tyrone had a rough start to the third set, starting down six points. The Lady Eagles fought back to make it close, but it wasn’t enough as Bellwood capitalized and won the set 25-18.
The fourth set was a tough back-and-forth battle on both sides of the net, but Tyrone came out on top, winning 28-26.
Tyrone played the deciding fifth set with a chip on their shoulder and scrapped out a 25-23 win to take the match.
Senior Abby Anthony contributed 26 digs and 5 service points, and Rylan Crowell had 21 kills and 4 service points. Also, Sidney Goodwin added 19 to that.
The team has a big rest of the week, playing at Huntingdon on Tuesday and at home against Central on Thursday.
