The Tyrone boys had a great start to the season Monday night beating the “other” Golden Eagles from Somerset 108-58, while the girls fell, 113-40.
The Tyrone boys took first in all three relays and every individual event except the 50 free and the 500 freestyle to cruise to victory.
Bishop Guilfoyle newcomer Patrick Van Klueman led the Golden Eagles with two individual and two relay wins and is showing great promise for this upcoming season. The freshman won the 200 individual medley (2:21.16) and 100 backstroke (1:02.49) and was also part of the first-place 200 free and 200 medley relays for Tyrone.
Tyrone junior Lucas Bonsell finished first in the 100 butterfly with a 1:03.75 and was part of the 200 free and 200 medley winning relays. Bonsell also finished third in the 100 back.
Bellwood sophomore Ned Smearman was also part of the winning 200 free relay with a time of 1:45.95, and the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:00.14. Smearman also earned second place in the 50 free with a 26.50.

Overall, the boys had a great start and are hoping for their win to set the stage for the rest of the season.
GIRLS
Despite their 113-40 loss to Somerset, the girls’ squad pushed through adversity and achieved several good individual results.
Tyrone did not earn a win in any of the three relays or individual events but had many solid second-place finishers, including the 200 free relay which the Tyrone girls lost by just .3 of a second, 2:09.58 to 2:09.85.
Tyrone junior Grace Corl was involved in the closest individual swim of the meet, boys or girls. Corl was just edged out on the finish of the 100 freestyle by less than .4 of a second, swimming a 1:09.80 and earning second place.
Senior Sophia Cowher swam a 2:35.93 in the 200 freestyle, good enough for second place, falling to Somerset swimmer Sheeler who swam a 2:24.60. Cowher also earned third place in the 100 butterfly.
Tyrone fell short of first in the 100 breaststroke with Tyrone sophomore Adaline Jeffries swimming a 1:41.91, with the first-place swimmer from Somerset, Basala, swimming a 1:28.71.
