The Tyrone High School Student Council will host a “Mini-Thon” on Friday January, 3rd from 7:00 – 10:00 P.M.

All the money raised at the event will be donated to Thon, a student-run Penn State organization that raises money to fight childhood cancer.

Thon began at Penn State in 1973 and is currently the largest student-run philanthropy in the world.  It raised over $10 million dollars last year and culminated in a 46-hour dance marathon.

According to Thon’s website, their “mission is to provide emotional and financial support, spread awareness and ensure funding for critical research – all in pursuit of a cure.”

In support of Thon, Mini-Thons have become popular events among local high schools, and this will be Tyrone’s first.

“People should attend the event because it raises money for a good cause and It’ll be a fun night out with your friends in a good atmosphere,” said Student Council Co-Vice President Nathan Yon.

Tyrone Mini-Thon t-shirts are on sale now for $12 and includes one admission ticket to the event, one free activity during the event, and one raffle ticket for a prize.

Forms to purchase a shirt can be found outside of Mrs. Smith’s room (231) and Mrs. Marasco (238). Students who order a shirt are asked to wear it to school Friday, January 3rd for a school spirit day.

Tickets for the TAHS Mini-Thon event will be available for purchase sometime after November 26th for $5.

“I think it is good for the students to get outside themselves and raise money for people who are going through a rough time and I think it is great for the student body to work together for the same thing,” said Student Council Co-Adviser Tiffany Smith.

During the event there will be many fun activities. There will be a DJ and dancing in the cafeteria, a four-square and corn-hole tournament, a tie-dye station, a candy and snack bar, a movie, and tabletop escape games.

There will also be various raffle prizes, including an Amazon FireStick, AirPods, and various gift cards.

The organizers ask that all students come and support the fight against childhood cancer and have a good night with your friends.
