The Tyrone Boys Wrestling squad traveled to New Paris to take on the Chestnut Ridge Lions in a dual meet on Tuesday, January 7th. Unfortunately, that meet did not go so well for the Golden Eagles. The final score was 57-18 with only three Tyrone victories.
Junior Kyle Scott caught a victory against Chestnut Ridge’s Ringler at 189 pounds. Scott pinned Ringler in 1 minute and 15 seconds into the first period.
Scott has been dominating for the Golden Eagles all season. He has just two losses this season and is projected to go far in the postseason. Scott has qualified for states in each of the past two seasons and is currently ranked 5th in the state at 189 lbs.
Freshman Mason VanAllman pinned Chestnut Ridge’s Harbaugh at 3:24. VanAllman has wrestled solid for the Golden Eagles as well. VanAllman made it to the second day of the Panther Classic, losing to the 3rd seed.
VanAllman also wrestled well at the Ultimate Warrior Open tournament, going 2-2 losing a hard-fought match to the second-seeded wrestler at the tournament.
VanAllman has been plagued with tough matchups all season long, continuously pulling top-seeded opponents. The experience should help him though. He is projected to have a bright future as a wrestler for the Golden Eagles in the future.
Senior Logan Rumberger suffered a shoulder injury in the Panther Classic, forcing him to sit out of the Chestnut Ridge dual meet. Rumberger has been a solid senior presence for the Golden Eagles all season.
