The Tyrone Golden Eagles got the special privilege of playing at People’s Natural Gas Field. (The Altoona Curve, Pirates AA affiliate)
They split their two games, losing to Hollidaysburg in the opening game of the weekend, but took down the Curwensville Golden Tide on Friday.
Thursday: Hollidaysburg 8, Tyrone 1
In Tyrone’s first game of the tournament, the Golden Eagles lost 8-1 against Hollidaysburg’s ace, Carson Kensinger.
The hard-throwing lefty came into the game with a 1.81 ERA on the season. He posted 5 scoreless innings against the Golden Eagles, only allowing 6 hits on the day.
For Tyrone, Owen Oakes scored their only run from first on an RBI single to right field from Wyatt Kustenbauder in the fifth inning.
Landon Postreich pitched for Tyrone, giving up 8 runs on 14 hits. He struck out 3 in 3.2 innings. Logan Seeger relieved Postreich and pitched 2.1 innings, allowing no runs.
Tyrone was shut down for most of the game and only scored 1 run.

After suffering a loss against Hollidaysburg, Tyrone bounced back with a 4-1 win over the Curwensville Golden Tide in the consolation game.
The Golden Tide had lost the day prior to Altoona, 16-0.
Tyrone went up early, scoring 2 in the first, and 1 in the second. The Golden Tide answered with a 2 RBI double in the second off of Tyrone junior Dylan Ewing.
Ewing tossed 6.1 innings, striking out six, and allowing seven hits.
Tyrone looked great on the basepaths, stealing three bags, one from AJ Coleman, and two from Gayge Miller, who stole second and third.
Ryan Light had two RBIs and Gayge Miller drove in another for Tyrone.
Ewing allowed two base runners in the 7th on two infield hits, and sophomore Brandon McClure came in to collect the save.
