Tyrone junior Rylan Crowell had a double-double with a team-leading 13 kills and 10 digs and senior Kylee Nelson led the team with 21 digs in a four-set loss at Hollidaysburg on Tuesday, September 17.
The match was looking good for the Lady Eagles early. They opened with excellent hitting and outstanding serve receives to take the first set 25-23.
“We came out really aggressive, and then we just got complacent and we started to get a little comfortable, but all around we played really well as a team,” junior Rylan Crowell said.
Going into the second set, Tyrone was energized, but it wasn’t enough. The Lady Eagles fell 25-19.
As the sets were tied up, the third set was nothing short of a battle. Both teams fought hard and there were many great volleys. Ultimately the Golden Tigers came out on top taking a 2-1 set lead with a 25-21 victory.
“We started out really well energy-wise, leading to us winning the first set,” said senior defensive specialist Sarah Zimmerman, “but it slowly dropped off after some changes.”
The fourth and final set was a repeat score of the first set, but this time in favor of Hollidaysburg, 25-23, ending the game with Hollidaysburg winning 3 sets to Tyrone’s 1.
While Tyrone was disappointed with the loss, they were pleased with the overall competitiveness of each set and hope to improve further in the second half of the season.
Tyrone’s record fell to 3-4.
