Tyrone Softball to Host Pink Game on Saturday, May 13 vs. Bellwood
May 5, 2017
Tyrone Lady Eagle softball program will hold a “Strike Out Breast Cancer and DIPG” game on May 13th, 2017 at home vs. rival Bellwood. Game time is 12:00 pm.
Several Tyrone softball players have loved ones who have been diagnosed with cancer. They will be honored as varsity and junior high teams take on Bellwood. The game will raise money and support the patients that mean so much to our Lady Eagles.
The players sold t-shirts for the event, and the proceeds will go the Micheal Mosier Defeat DIPG Foundation. The foundation provides financial assistance to those in need and retrieving treatment for brainstem tumors known as diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas (DIPG), the form of cancer that recently took the life of young Madison Shura of Bellwood.
T-shirts were made and sold for the event, and there will be a limited amount available the day of the event. The shirts sport the traditional rink ribbon and the gold ribbon representing childhood cancer. The design is also in honor of Madison’s love of glitter.
“We’re really excited for the game, ” says sophomore Sydney Shaw, “and I think we’ll beat Bellwood,” added junior Emily Lehman.
