Tyrone softball opens the season 0-2

Sophomore starting pitcher Anna Baran delivers a pitch.

It was a tough week for Tyrone softball as they dropped both of their games this week to start the season off 0-2.

The first game of the week came against rival Bellwood-Antis on Saturday in Bellwood.  The  team fell 15-0 in four innings to the Lady Blue Devils in the season opener.

It was a rough night for the Lady Eagles who were only able to manage two hits, both singles by sophomores Finnley Christine and Anna Baran.

Tyrone Senior pitcher Ashley Tepsic was able to pitch a clean first inning allowing no runs and striking out one before defensive mistakes and a powerful Bellwood line-up took their toll by scoring six runs in the second.

Tepsic was eventually pulled out of the game for relief pitcher Anna Baran.  Tepsic was tagged with the loss for the game.

Bellwood countered by sending Taylor Shildt to the mound. Shildt brought her A-game with her Saturday afternoon as she was able to strike out eight Tyrone batters while walking none. The only fault in Shildt’s game was a hit by pitch given up to Kylie Rutherford in the second inning.

Shildt was the winning pitcher for the day.

Bellwood senior Emily Nagle led all batters with three hits and two RBI’s. Bellwood’s Jackie Finn and Laycee Clark both had two hits and two RBI’s to add onto the Lady Devil onslaught.

With this loss the Lady Eagles dropped their first game of the season and fell to 0-1 on the season as Bellwood moved onto a 2-0 record.

The Lady Eagles then lost 16-5 against the Bellefonte Lady Red Raiders on Thursday.

Junior Shannon Gearhart pitched in relief of Baran in 5th inning.

Baran finished the day with 3 strike outs and 3 walks while giving up 6 runs through 4 2/3 innings. She was tagged with the loss.

Tyrone was sophomore Finnley Christine had an outstanding game for the Lady Eagles. In her first at bat she was able to hit a scorcher over the head of Bellefonte’s right fielder for a stand up triple. She then stole home to put Tyrone’s first run of the season on the board.

Despite a strong effort late in the game, Tyrone still dropped their second game of the season to fall to 0-2 on the year.
