Tyrone slays the Dragons with catapults
Tyrone downed Central 65-55 on Wednesday. What made the win noteworthy was that the Eagles were able to get good production from several players. With four players in double digits, and 10 three pointers from four different shooters, the win was a true team effort. Junior Alex Weaver led with 16, sophomore Dylan Thomas added 15, senior Anthony Politza had 12 and sophomore Parker Mitchell netted 10. It was only the second time this season Politza did not pace the Eagles in points.
Central opened the first quarter on a 8-4 run, before Tyrone settled down.
Tyrone began moving the ball well and found Dylan Thomas for 3 straight three’s. After Thomas’ drilled shot after shot, Tyrone was able to penetrate Central’s zone defense and rounded out their scoring barrage.
However, right before halftime Central executed a run of their own to pull within one point at intermission.
Tyrone came out of the half scorching, scoring 19 points in the third quarter. Alex Weaver joined Thomas with 3 three pointers in the third quarter alone, and 4 overall, as Tyrone leaped ahead.
After jumping out to their ten point lead after the third, Tyrone looked to close out the game.
“Points aren’t everything, I’m just happy I was able to contribute by distributing,” said point guard Jake Meredith.
Meredith only ended the game with 5 points but assisted many of Tyrone’s easy buckets down the stretch.
Weaver added his last three in the fourth quarter and Tyrone began to kill the clock once they had a sizable lead.
Tyrone defends their court against Huntingdon at home tonight. Varsity will begin at 6:00 pm because of the massive snow storm that is about to wreck the whole Northern side of the East Coast.
