The annual Lezzer Lumber Classic was played on Friday, June 20 at Bellefonte High School’s Rogers Stadium and featured five Tyrone seniors from the Class of 2025.
Tyrone seniors Ashton Walk, Austin Lucas, Dante Novak, Seth Hoover, and Trent Adams all played for the South squad in one of the premiere all-star football games in Pennsylvania.
While the South lost to the North squad 36-28, the focus was on the players and not the final score.
The first score of the game was an all-Tyrone affair with Walk throwing a 25-yard touchdown pass to Adams.
Walk struck again with 7:08 remaining in the second quarter, finding the endzone on the ground by way of a 1-yard quarterback sneak, and also threw a third touchdown pass.
Tyrone’s Seth Hoover also scored for the South, on a 5-yard rushing touchdown out of the backfield in the third quarter.
Tyrone kicker Dante Novak also scored on a pair of two-point conversion kicks. The Lezzer Lumber Classic has a rule stating that if a field goal was kicked at 20 yards it is worth 2 points.
On defense, senior Austin Lucas was very strong for the South. He was a key element to the Eagles defense and showed that in the Lezzer Lumber Classic.
Ashton Walk was named offensive MVP for the South team with 161 passing yards and three touchdowns, one rushing and two passing.
“It was an honor getting to play one last game with all the guys I grew up with. it was a chance to make a few more memories,” Walk said.
The game was founded in 1985 by the Central Pennsylvania Football Coaches Association (CPFCA), it stands as one of Pennsylvania’s top-tier all-star football events throughout Central Pennsylvania, with participation from 32 schools across Districts VI and IX.
State College’s Darryl Lunon was the North squad’s Defensive MVP, while Connor Boreman was the South’s top defensive player.
Austin Lucas was one of the game’s scholarship winners.
With the win, the North extended its all-time lead in the series to two games, at 21-19.
