Tyrone Sends Dubois Home With a Loss

Senior keeper Landon Bungo in goal.

After Dubois dominated Tyrone last year 5-0, Senior forward Alex Taylor put 2 goals in the back of the net, and Senior goalkeeper Landon Bungo made a key PK save for the 2-1 win over the AAAA school.

Tyrone started out strong with a goal in the first half courtesy of senior Alex Taylor.

As fatigue rolled in, Dubois was just able to even out the scoreboard with 21.7 seconds remaining in the first half.

The two contesting teams came back on the field from halftime knowing that the team who wants the win more is the team that will get it.

As the fight continued in the second half, Tyrone absorbed pressure from Dubois falling right into Tyrone’s plan.

Once Tyrone absorbed the pressure, Alex Taylor made a counter-attack run passing all of the defenders and scored putting Tyrone in the lead 2-1.

“The game was definitely close,” says sophomore Eric Sims. “We did everything right on the field, and we stuck to our gameplan”.

At this point all Tyrone had to do was lock down their defense to keep Dubois from scoring.

Later in the half, an offensive player from the opposing team came into the 18-yard box, and a Tyrone defender got called for tripping the Dubois player.

Dubios was awarded a PK on Tyrone’s senior keeper Landon Bungo. As the opposing team got set up for this nail-biting advantage for Dubois, everyone went silent.

Bungo predicts right and deflects the ball out of bounds keeping Tyrone in the lead and making the game-winning save.

“Bungo kept us in the game and bailed us out multiple times including an incredible PK save,” says senior Kelton Raabe.” We played a perfect game, we utilized our strengths and were able to pull through for the win”.

Tyrone walked off the field knowing they played a good game. They applied what they learned and what they already knew to beat Dubois.
