The Golden Eagles claimed a 9-2 victory against the Penn Cambria Panthers on Tuesday in an important game with playoff implications.
Tyrone’s offense was highlighted with multi-hit games from numerous players, which eventually led to the Golden Eagles’ win.
Tyrone’s defense had a stellar game. Senior outfielder Lincoln Shirey gunned out a runner attempting to advance to third base on a fly ball. Junior infielder Brandon McClure also showed great hustle, gathering a blooper hit to throw out a runner advancing to third on one hop.
The pitchers for the Golden Eagles also had solid outings. Junior Eli Woomer pitched five innings of two-run ball. Woomer worked out of many jams to add to Tyrone’s momentum.
“My defense was behind me all game, and gave me plenty of confidence to keep pitching and let them hit,” said pitcher Eli Woomer.
Tyrone’s outfield was nearly perfect, hawking down fly balls left and right, creating Tyrone Baseball’s “No Fly Zone.”
“I think our defense has improved from the beginning of the year,” senior outfielder Gayge Miller said, “and we all have confidence in each other to make the plays.”
Tyrone senior Dylan Ewing pitched the final two frames, slamming the door shut. Ewing posted four strikeouts in two innings of work.
The Golden Eagles improved their record to 10-5 in their victory against the now 8-3 Penn Cambria Panthers.
Tyrone will take on Greater Johnstown on Friday at 4:30 pm at home. It will be Tyrone’s senior night.
