Tyrone rebounds against Huntingdon, 42-27
Golden Eagle offense fly’s high in bounce back win
Four for eight and 53 yards passing. That was the performance turned in by Golden Eagle quarterback Drew Hunter last week against Central.
Hunter redefined the word redemption on Friday night, turning in the greatest passing performance in school history.
“I give all the credit to my offensive line,” said Hunter immediately after the game, “I was really feeling it tonight. I was getting the ball out quick to my receivers and they did the rest.”
His 16-23, 338 yards and four touchdowns powered Tyrone to a 42-27 victory over Huntingdon. “There have been so many great quarterbacks to play here in Tyrone and it’s a surreal feeling to be mentioned among them.”
Receivers Cullen Raftery and Parker Mitchell had monster nights, going for 120 and 189 yards receiving respectively and two touchdown catches each. Raftery added two interceptions on defense as well.
Not to be outdone, the Golden Eagle rushing attack ripped the Bearcat defense for 190 yards. Tailback Gary Weaver, who also struggled last week, turned in his best performance with 142 yards and a touchdown on the night.
The Bearcat’s star player John Wagner was largely contained for most of the night. Although he totaled 76 yards on 10 carries he was stopped from reaching the endzone for most of the night. Wagner did score from eight yards out and on a long kick return for touchdown.
Along with Raftery’s two interceptions freshman linebacker Denver Light also added an interception as well. The costly turnovers plagued Huntingdon and allowed the Golden Eagles to build a 42-7 lead before taking their foot off the gas.
Tyrone turns their attention towards their next match-up against the Mounties of Philipsburg who are win-less so far this season.
