Tyrone celebrated their final regular-season game at Gray-Veterans Memorial Field against the Central Cambria Red Devils with an offensive explosion, winning 55-19.
It was also Senior Night for the Golden Eagles, which was fitting because the quality of play from Tyrone’s twelve seniors made their final game on Gray Memorial Field memorable.
Standout seniors included quarterback Ashton Walk (18-19, 315 yards passing, 5 touchdowns), wide receiver Trent Adams (7 for 157 yards receiving, 4 touchdowns), running back Seth Hoover (13 for 124 yards rushing and a touchdown), defensive lineman Ian Gibbons (2 tackles for losses) and Cian Hockenberry (7 tackles, 1 for a loss), and defensive backs Logan Rumberger and Gayge Miller (zero completions allowed).
Tyrone started the game strong forcing the Red Devils into an early three and out, which was quickly followed by the first of four touchdown connections between senior quarterback Ashton Walk and senior wideout Trent Adams.
However, the Red Devil offense responded quickly. Central Cambria quarterback Grady Snyder dashed for a 62-yard touchdown on the Red Devil’s first play from scrimmage, evening the score at 7-7.
The explosive Tyrone offense took just three plays to answer once again as senior running back Seth Hoover went untouched on a 77-yard touchdown run to put Tyrone back on top 14-7.
On the ensuing drive, the Tyrone defense forced a turnover as sophomore defensive back Mason Emigh intercepted a pass setting up the Tyrone offense in good field position.
After a big completion to junior receiver Eli Woomer the Golden Eagles were set up nicely inside the 5 yard-line. Walk then found junior running back Ashton Emigh for a 1-yard receiving touchdown to put the Golden Eagles up 21-7.
Late in the first, the Red Devil offense continued to have success in the run game. CC quarterback Grady Snyder once again broke wavy from the Golden Eagle defense for a 33-yard touchdown run.
But on the PAT, Tyrone made a big play on special teams as senior linebacker Austin Lucas blocked the extra point attempt, making the score 21-13.
On their next drive, the Tyrone offense went 67 yards in just five plays, ending with Ashton Walk finding Trent Adams again for a big 52-yard touchdown. The Golden Eagles took a 28-13 lead early in the second quarter.
After a long drive from Central Cambria, Tyrone was able to force a punt that was downed at the twenty-yard line of the Golden Eagles.
It took only four plays for the Golden Eagles to go 80- yards, finishing off with a 19-yard touchdown completion to Trent Adams, his third of the half, and his third out of his four on the night.
Tyrone took the 35-13 lead into halftime.
Tyrone carried that first-half momentum into the second half immediately scoring a touchdown in only four plays. Tyrone had big gains of 22 yards from receiver Eli Woomer, 17 yards from Seth Hoover, who ended with 138 total yards on 15 touches, and a 23-yard touchdown connection between Ashton Walk, and Trent Adams only added to the Golden Eagles’ assault on offense.
The Tyrone defense, feeding off of the offense’s success, forced a turnover on downs for the Red Devils that set up the offense with another short field, this time starting at midfield. The defense despite giving up two long touchdown rushes held Central Cambria to just 5.2 yards per carry.
Tyrone’s varsity offense took the field for the last time, finding success in the run game. As they saw themselves on the goalline, Ashton Walk kept it himself for his fifth total touchdown on the night, to get the mercy clock rolling with 3- minutes left in the third quarter. The golden eagle went for a two-point conversion but Central Cambria was able to make the stop.
Tyrone went into the final minutes of the third leading 48-13.
In the fourth quarter both the Tyrone and Central Cambria JV teams traded touchdowns with Tyrone sophomore running back Caleb Whitby scoring on a 15-yard touchdown run.
Tyrone travels to play Penns Valley on Friday in the regular season finale. After that, the Golden Eagles will play an interconference game before the playoffs.
