Tyrone Overpowers Mount Union 86-63

Scoring was the name of the game for Tyrone as they put up 86 in a convincing win over Mount Union. Tyrone’s backcourt was the biggest contributor. Juniors Parker Mitchell and Jacob Meredith each added 24, and junior Dylan Thomas scored 16. Combined, Tyrone’s backcourt scored 64 points.

“Parker [Mitchell] had some really good drives, and that, combined with Mount Union being in foul trouble for most of the game led to a big game from him,” said Tyrone point guard Jacob Meredith.

Although it was a non-conference game, it was a very convincing win for the Golden Eagles. Offensively, Tyrone was firing on all cylinders. Sharpshooter Dylan Thomas netted three triples, Mitchell got to the rim with ease, and their big men were rebounding and finishing extremely well.

“If we keep shooting and scoring like we have been, we’re gonna be tough to beat,” said Head Coach George Gripp.

As for Mount Union, their point guard Tyrik Hartley scored a team high 19. Mount Union played a great first quarter, leading 20-18. The last three quarters were quite the contrary though. Tyrone outscored Mount Union 68-41 in the last three periods.

Tyrone is rolling off big wins over central and Mount Union, and they will look to continue their streak of great play. They play Huntingdon on Tuesday and Clearfield on Thursday.
