The Tyrone Golden Eagles took a lamentable 26-0 loss against the Bishop Guilfoyle Mauraders last Friday at Mansion Park. It was Tyrone’s second loss in a row, after falling to rival Bellwood the previous week.
Tyrone could not get their offense going and suffered its first shutout of the season. The Bishop Guilfoyle defense forced Tyrone to punt on all five of their first-half drives.
The Eagles only managed 105 yards in total offense, while Bishop Guilfoyle tallied 326 total yards.
The good news for the Eagles was that their defense held tough in the first quarter, keeping the Mauraders out of the end zone.
But Guifoyle scored first with 4:18 left in the second quarter on a 10-yard Justin Wheeler pass to Jack Gioiosa, to make the score 7-0 BG.
Then an unfortunate penalty ended in a Bishop Guilfoyle field goal to end the half.
Tyrone’s Mason Emigh intercepted a Wheeler pass, but the play was called back for defensive pass interference, which moved the ball to the Tyrone 24. Guilfoyle’s Carter Boland nailed a 41-yard field goal with no time on the first half clock, to end the half 10-0.
The game was still winnable for Tyrone at halftime, with Bishop Guilfoyle only up by ten.
However, the turning point in the game was Rocco Cacciotti tackling Caleb Whitby in the endzone for a safety with 57 seconds left in the third quarter.
Tyrone’s defense did not perform to their maximum potential when attempting to stop the run from Bishop Guilfoyle.
Bishop Guilfoyle had a total of 43 carries for 222 yards compared to Tyrone with 21 rushes for 42 yards.
Huntingdon travels to the Eagles’ home field tomorrow. Tyrone has a 3-3 record going into the game, hoping they can bounce back and get their winning record back. The Huntingdon Bearcats are 5-1 going into the game against the Eagles.
