Tyrone majorettes go to Atlantic Coast Championships in first place
The Tyrone majorettes and color guard teams traveled to St. Mary’s this past weekend to compete in the TIA Chapter XI championships.
The majorettes took first place and received their season high score of 79.02, less than a point away from their goal of 80.
“We really wanted to get an 80 so it’s slightly disappointing that we didn’t achieve that goal, but I have great hopes for Wildwood and can’t wait to see the outcome,” said senior Megann Koegler.
The color guard got second place with a score of 79, falling to Westmont for the second competition in a row.
Both groups will travel to Wildwood, New Jersey this Wednesday to compete in the annual “Weekend in Wildwood,” Atlantic Coast Championships.
Hundreds of teams from all over the Atlantic coast will be competing at this competition.
In Wildwood the Majorettes will compete against two other teams and the color guard will compete against 28 other teams.
If the color guard comes within the top 16 they will have a chance to move on to semi-finals for the first time in three years.
Although the Majorettes have been in first place all season, their competitors are closing the gap with the scores therefore it will be a battle to remain in first place.
“I think it is going to be an intense competition, but I also feel confident that we can get the gold medal,” said senior Amber Chamberlin. “Although we are going on this trip to compete, we are also going to have a lot of fun and I can’t wait.”
